# Origin Story: Why We Started Midcontract

Midcontract wasn’t born in a brainstorm — it came out of real-world frustration.

As a software agency, we regularly got burned by clients ghosting payments. One case cost us $60,000 — no legal recourse, no protection.

Platforms like Upwork didn’t help. High fees, weak dispute systems, and limited control over terms made things worse.

So we built what we wish existed:
